Federal Dysfunction. Local Fallout

When federal funding is disrupted, the effects ripple throughout Montana. Nonprofits are critical partners to government, filling gaps in essential services like healthcare, housing, and food assistance. When funding is uncertain, nonprofits are forced to reduce services, lay off staff, or even close their doors, leaving rural and vulnerable Montanans with nowhere else to turn. These delays and disruptions aren’t just bureaucratic; they put real people at risk, including seniors and veterans, children, and families. Our government must provide reliable, timely funding so nonprofits can continue their vital work without political interference or unnecessary red tape.

What is MNA Doing to Help?

On National Nonprofit Day, MNA and 80 organizations from 22 counties sent a letter to Montana’s Congressional Delegation urging them to ensure timely, stable federal funding for Montana nonprofits. Read the full letter here. We met with the delegation during August recess to deliver the letter and discuss improving federal funding processes for Montana.

We are collecting stories of how nonprofits and communities have been harmed by federal funding disruptions and dysfunction, and have created a message guide on how to talk about federal funding disruptions.
