Course Description:
Think Census data is about as exciting as reading the phone book? Think again! Every winning grant proposal needs a great story—but even the best story is stronger when it’s backed by solid data. Over two sessions, we’ll explore how U.S. Census data can become your grant-writing sidekick, helping you find the demographic, economic, and housing statistics that funders want to see.
You’ll learn where to find the data, how to interpret it without needing a degree in statistics, and how to use it to demonstrate community need, strengthen program design, and measure potential impact. Whether you’re a Census data rookie or just looking to sharpen your research skills, you’ll leave with practical tools, helpful resources, and the confidence to turn numbers into narratives that help your proposals rise to the top of the funding pile.

Case Studies of Grant Writer Examples: This will be a hands-on session of data.census.gov – participants will see a live demonstration of 3 examples provided by host organization, then be asked to conduct a search on their own for their topic of interest and geographic areas.
