Schedule:
Session One | April 23 1:00 – 3:00 PM MTN
Participants will explore key historical events from an Indigenous perspective, highlighting their lasting impact on American Indian communities. Using research from Indigenous scholars, attendees will learn about cultural safety, identity, and how to apply historical context to break down barriers and promote healing through a holistic lens.
Session Two | April 30 1:00 – 2:30 MTN
Through discussions and activities, participants will develop skills for creating culturally safe spaces by exploring identity complexity and resilience. They’ll also use the “cultural iceberg” model to enhance critical thinking and self-awareness, helping them strategize ways to overcome adversity and navigate effectively.
This first 2 sessions of course will be recorded.
Follow-Up Focus Group: Application Only
May 13th 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM
Combined with our BIPOC Affinity group, the follow-up session will focus on reflecting upon the two previous trainings on cultural safety for BIPOC members of the Montana Nonprofit Association. This session will offer space to discuss key takeaways, explore how the organization can implement culturally safe practices, discuss how BIPOC leaders can feel supported in navigating white dominant spaces and consider next steps in fostering partnerships with Indigenous populations and communities for meaningful and sustained engagement.
Apply to attend the focus group here. Selected participants who attend all three sessions will receive a reimbursement for their training costs or a scholarship to attend.
