The AFP Montana 2026 Education Summit, “Pathways in Planned Giving: From Simple Gifts to Complex Strategies”, brings together fundraising professionals, nonprofit leaders, and philanthropic partners from across the state for two days of learning, connection, and professional development in Billings. Through expert-led sessions and real-world case studies, attendees will explore the evolving landscape of planned giving and donor-advised funds while gaining practical strategies to strengthen donor relationships and build long-term philanthropic support. Whether new to planned giving or seeking to expand existing expertise, participants will leave with actionable tools, fresh perspectives, and valuable statewide connections. Pending approval, full participation is expected to provide 11 CFRE Education points (Category 1.B) toward initial certification and recertification.
Participants will gain a deeper understanding of planned giving strategies, from basic gift vehicles to more advanced charitable planning approaches. Attendees will learn how to effectively engage donors in conversations about donor-advised funds and legacy giving, apply practical techniques for strengthening donor relationships, evaluate real-world planned giving scenarios, and develop actionable strategies to enhance their organization’s long-term fundraising success.
This Summit is designed for fundraising professionals at all levels, including development directors, annual and major gift officers, nonprofit executives, advancement staff, board members, and emerging fundraisers. Whether participants are new to planned giving or seeking to expand their expertise in donor-advised funds and advanced gift strategies, the program offers practical insights and tools applicable to a wide range of nonprofit organizations.
The Summit will feature a diverse group of experienced fundraising professionals, planned giving specialists, nonprofit executives, philanthropic advisors, and subject matter experts from Montana and beyond. Presenters have extensive experience in planned giving, donor-advised funds, donor engagement, and nonprofit leadership.
