For MNA members we offer 10% of our time pro-bono for organizations with an annual expense budget of ≥ $3M and up to 50% for organizations with budgets smaller than that, depending on budget size.

Van Waes Consulting facilitates and guides flexible strategic planning processes for nonprofits of all sizes.  Our goal is to ensure team-wide alignment behind a unified mission, vision, and values and then to guide you in building a nimble strategic plan that can respond to challenges and new opportunities, flex your creativity, fully engage your stakeholders, track your outcomes, and make the best use of the organization’s time and resources. 

At Van Waes Consulting, we believe that strategic planning should be nimble and be built by the board and staff working together, with input from a variety of stakeholders.  We’re here to facilitate and guide the process for you, not to create your plan ourselves.  A flexible strategic plan is not a single, etched-in-stone document, but rather a combination of contextual work, topline outcome goals and scenario planning, risk tolerance assessment, an accountability mechanism, and a communication plan.

Non-Profit Management and Board Development

Van Waes Consulting provides a number of services to strengthen and modernize nonprofits, including:

We provide tailored retreat and workshop design and facilitation services that are specific to your organization, not pre-boxed.  We will work with you to ascertain your needs and design a package that works for you and your budget.  Our goal is always to ensure an engaging experience with concrete, practical results for your organization – no one likes something that feels and sounds good in the moment and then vanishes as soon as the day is over.

We also provide Executive Transition services that bolster the work of your Executive Recruiter.  Ideally, we begin working with you before a transition is announced, helping to craft the position description and recruitment plan all the way through to the 90-day plan for the new Executive and coaching them and the board through that transition.  Getting that transition right can be critical for minimizing burnout and turnover and maximizing trust-building and collaboration.

Our Executive Advising/Coaching services go beyond coaching in that we get into the weeds with you a co-strategize solutions to your most pressing leadership and management conundrums, almost as your invisible co-pilot.  Our goal is to take a weight off your shoulders and make your c-suite job less lonely, with a trusted thought partner in your corner, staving off burnout and taking your leadership to the next level.  

We provide Mid-Career Coaching as well, helping you to manage up, manage your team, and build your leadership presence within your organization, your community, and your field.  We also provide career coaching, helping you to uncover your next career move.  Group coaching is also available at this level, providing a lower cost option and a chance to problem-solve with peers.

Our leadership and management training is flexible to meet your needs and budget, ranging from half and full day retreat workshops to 90 minute mini-workshops.  Topics can include everything from managing up to leading remote and matrixed teams to providing constructive feedback to building healthy workplace cultures, and everything in between.  The topics we choose to cover together depend on the needs of the particular organization and group of participants.
